Understanding Angels in Our Lives
In all the years and thousands of healings where I have been the conduit for spiritual healing, there have only been a handful of times where I have seen angels. The first time I saw one of these heavenly beings was many years ago during a healing session.
As I performed the laying on of hands as directed by spirit, towards the end of the session, I looked up and saw a massive angel with wings the size of the room standing at the head of the client. This experience took me by surprise, especially as I was working in corporate at the time, trying to process what I was witnessing amidst its spectacular nature. Instantly, I knew the client was destined for something special in life.
For those who need a little more convincing, let us explore the expansive realm of Angels.
In the vast expanse of spiritual beliefs and religious doctrines, angels hold a unique and revered place across many faiths and belief systems. These celestial beings, often depicted with ethereal beauty and divine purpose, bridge the gap between the divine and humanity. They guide, protect, and deliver messages from the higher realms, offering comfort, safety, and guidance.
The history of angels and archangels is rich and multifaceted, spanning various cultures, religions, and mythologies. Derived from the Greek word "angelos," meaning "messenger," angels are depicted as intermediaries between the divine and humanity.
In ancient Mesopotamian religions, entities resembling angels appeared as divine messengers. Judaism and Christianity inherited and expanded upon these concepts, with figures like Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael recognised as archangels, each with distinct roles and attributes.
Islam venerates angels such as Jibril (Gabriel), who delivered the Quran to Muhammad. Beyond Abrahamic traditions, angels appear in Zoroastrianism as Amesha Spentas and in various mystical and esoteric traditions as spiritual guides and guardians. In paganism, entities similar to angels acted as messengers and protectors in ancient Roman and Greek traditions.
While many religions feature beings fulfilling roles akin to angels, interpretations and significance can vary. Some traditions, such as certain sects of Buddhism and Jainism, do not emphasise angelic beings, focusing instead on liberated souls or non-theistic principles.
Despite declining religious affiliations, reports of angelic encounters continue to persist. People report frequently their experience of angels as sources of guidance, comfort, and miraculous intervention, inspiring belief in the celestial and mystical realms.
Angelic work across many professions has proliferated history and has inspired countless artistic expressions. One of the more famous is Michelangelo's frescoes in the Sistine Chapel, painted between 1508 and 1512, prominently feature angels in dynamic and heavenly scenes, reflecting the Renaissance ideal of divine beauty and perfection.
So now we know a touch of the history, let’s look at the types of Angels.
The two main types that most people are aware of are Angel and Archangels. Angels and archangels are celestial beings that differ in their roles, hierarchy, and responsibilities.
Angels, often serving as personal guides and protectors, assist individuals with everyday challenges and spiritual growth. Positioned lower in the celestial hierarchy, they interact more directly and frequently with humans.
In contrast, archangels hold higher ranks and oversee larger, more profound aspects of creation, guiding other angels and influencing broader aspects of life. They are fewer in number, with notable figures like Michael, Gabirel, Raphael, Metatron and Gabriel, and their appearances in religious texts are tied to significant events and messages, carrying greater authority and impact.
What do they want us to know?
Many things, but the role of angels in our lives hinges on a crucial principle: our free will. Angels can assist us only when we ask for their help, respecting our agency even in the spiritual realm so let’s not hesitate to invite them into our everyday lives.
These Archangels, along with many other angels, stand ready to assist us, but they respect our free will. They wait patiently for our invitation, a principle beautifully summarised by the mystic and author, C.S. Lewis: "The angels are closer to us than we are to ourselves."
In conclusion, I have only covered a tiny fraction of what I could tell you about Angels and what I do know is that by incorporating the presence of angels into our daily lives we can transform our experiences from the mundane into the extraordinary.
However, by acknowledging their presence and actively seeking their assistance, we will find ourselves moving with greater ease, purpose, and confidence. Embracing the assistance of angels invites a profound partnership that enriches our lives with divine love, guidance, wisdom, and support.
The next time you face a challenge or seek guidance, remember that the angels are ready and waiting. All you need to do is ask.
In loving service,
